Lolita Complex Movies
“I knew I had fallen in love with Lolita forever; but I also knew she would not be forever Lolita.” ― Vladimir Nabokov,
Lolita is a very famous novel by Russian author Vladimir Nabokov from 1955, entailed by a lot of scandals. Narrator is the 37 year old Humbert Humbert, whose earlier life was full of unfulfilled dreams. But then, he meets Lolita, the 12 year old daugther of a widow. And now he knows, that its time for his dreams to come true...
How does Lolita begin?
Humbert Humberts first love was Annabel Lee. But in 1923, when both were 13 years old, she died. What still has remained since then is his sexual desire for girls like Annabel. Girls, who are still very young teenagers. Girls, which he calls nymphets. Throughout his life, he is able to control this attraction, is working as a teacher, copywriter and also a participant for expeditions. But during his stay in an US town called Ramsdale, when he is meeting Lolita ("the perfect nymphet"), Humbert begins observing the young girl whilst writing down his feelings into a diary. Humbert and Lolita finally start making small avances to each other, while her mother really seems to fall in fall with Humbert. Charlotte Haze gives him the choice to either marry her or she will leave. After she jealously finds out about his real motives regarding Lolita, she dies in a car accident. Humbert is now the legal guardian of Lolita - in his eyes a "free ticket". On the ongoing journey through different states in the USA, both begin a more or less mutual love relationship.
“At the hotel we had separate rooms, but in the middle of the night she came sobbing into mine, and we made it up very gently. You see, she had absolutely nowhere else to go.” ― Vladimir Nabokov,
How does Lolita end?
The end is very tragic: almost everybody dies. First of all Lolita gets alleged kidnapped. Three years later, she surprisingly asks Humbert for help. Now she is pregnant, married and has no money. She tells him, that he (her current husband) is the man, she always loved. Humbert gets to know that this man is dramatist Clare Quilty, an old friend of the Haze-family. He shoots him. Later on, Lolita dies after the birth of a dead baby girl.
What is a Lolita Complex?
A lolita complex is a strong sexual desire from middle-age men to teenage girls or very young women. These girls/women are what Britney Spears once sang, basically "not a girl not yet a woman". The line between a "normal" and an abnormal desire for very young women is fine. Many men in general like childlike femmes, because it gives them the feeling to play the protective one. But are they having a lolita complex? Probably no. It also depends on culture and in some, relationships between very young women and older men are largely accepted.
Top Five Lolita Complex Movies
Lolita Complex movies deal with the main fantasy of an older man for a younger woman. The case with lolita complex movies is, that the girl/woman is "acting" a lot older than other females in her age group:
Lolita from 1997 is based on the original story from Vladimir Nabokov. Jeremy Irons plays Humbert Humbert, Lolita is mimed by the then 15 year old Dominique Swan. The movie was a real flop, but nowadays still gets somehow a lot of attention due to the irritating topic.
Mini's First Time (2006)
Nikki Reed became famous with her first movie Thirteen, for which she functioned as a co-writer and also took the part of the precocious Evie Zamora. In Mini's First Time from 2006, she is again a rebellious teenager, who collects "first time's". While debuting as a callgirl, her much older stepfather (Alec Baldwin) unknowingly becomes her client. American Beauty (1999)
As a consequence of Lesters (Kevin Spacey) midlife crisis and his growing interest for his daugthers friend Angela (Mena Suvari), he plans to change his life. The plot for American Beauty got inspired by the Amy Fisher-process: the then 17 year old had an affair with Joey Buttafuoco. She got accused of shooting his wife and received 6 years in prison. A funny fact about the movie or better: the film poster is, that it doesn't show Mena Suvari, but actress Chloe Hunter.
The Lover (1992)
The lover is based on the same name autobiographic novel by Marguerite Duras from 1986. The then 15 year old Marguerite is played by Jane March, an actress and model with Spanish, English, Chinese and Vietnamese roots. Rumors after the movies release said that the sex scenes between the actress and the Chinese "Lover" (played by Tony Leung Ka-Fai) look too real to be fake. Afterwards, director Jean Jacques Arnaud denied them.
Leon - The Professional (1994)
While shooting the movie Leon - the profi, Natalie Portman was only around 12 years old - just like the original Lolita. The story spins around the contract killer Norman Stansfiled (Jean Reno), who saves the young Mathilda (Natalie Portman) from getting murdered and finally becomes his apprentice. Many scenes between Mathilda and Norman got deleted in the final version because of the apparently immoderate sexual allussions.
